The MACRO Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome opened its autumn season on September 24, continuing the research programme initiated in 2026 by artistic director Cristiana Perrella. At its centre is 'Sguardo rovescio', the first major Italian museum exhibition devoted to Marialba Russo, curated by Perrella and Elena Magini. Russo belongs to a generation of women artists who redefined photographic language in Italy through social observation, anthropological research and experimentation. The exhibition focuses on seven key bodies of work from the 1970s, using images of bodies and rituals to unsettle established viewpoints and question the cultural construction of gender, masculinity and identity.
