On Wednesday 23 September Dreweatts offered Park View, a private collection from a London apartment amassed over four decades. Inspired by the Grand Tourists of the 18th century, the collection reflected an interest in architecture, antiquity and the leading Regency cabinet makers, mixing periods and cultures with freedom and discernment. The auction attracted international bidders online and on the telephone and achieved £690,000, equivalent to 187% of the pre-sale estimate. The leading lot was a Regency gilt-brass mounted and inlaid ebony and calamander breakfront bookcase attributed to George Oakley, circa 1815, which realised £120,900. A 19th-century Sinhalese calamander canopy bed, probably from Galle or Colombo, achieved £76,450, while a set of six Scottish Regency ebony-inlaid mahogany chairs in the manner of William Trotter made £26,880. Further highlights ranged from a spider-and-insect-inlaid Aesthetic period two-tier table to a pair of gilt bronze mounted Blue John urns, circa 1800-1820.
