An artist who has largely kept to the background has come forward with her own solo exhibition. Devipriya P presents Unseen Impressions, a show of prints and paintings at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath in Bengaluru, running from 9 to 16 October 2026 under the banner of DheRa Art Studio. The inauguration was attended by Pa Sa Kumar, president of the Karnataka Lalithakala Akademi, eco-architect Prof. Satyaprakash Varanashi and K. N. Siddiqui, director of the English daily News Trail.

The works begin as monoprints on rice paper, which Devipriya collages onto canvas and then reworks with pens, pastels and acrylics. Rather than leaving the printed image to stand alone, she treats it as a point of departure, letting subsequent layers of colour, gesture and mark-making dissolve the boundaries between printmaking and painting. Calligraphic elements enrich the surfaces and play on the exhibition's central idea of impressions, those made, received and retained.

Animals carry the emotional weight of the show. The cat, with its shifting moods, stands for the human mentality; the owl embodies a stillness the artist finds elusive; the frog and the chameleon speak of adaptability and the concealment of the self; the snail, bearing its home on its back, evokes the responsibilities carried by women. Fish, lady bugs and earthen pitchers joined by red threads extend the symbolism into questions of vision, vulnerability and the delicate bonds between people.

Assembled like pages of a journal, the canvases gather fragments of leaves, organic strokes, written gestures and layered imagery into intimate compositions. The result is a contemplative body of work in which familiar creatures become vessels for reflection on temperament, coexistence and belonging.
