Two of the art world's most influential dealers are joining forces for a landmark exhibition. Jeffrey Deitch and Pace Gallery will co-present Untethered Journey, a survey of historical and recent works by Kiki Smith, at Deitch's Los Angeles space at 925 North Orange Drive from 30 October 2026 through 23 January 2027. It will be the artist's first solo exhibition in Los Angeles in thirty years.

Smith, who emerged in New York in the 1980s, is known for a materially expansive practice that moves between sculpture, drawing, glasswork, printmaking and textiles. Her work traces the interconnection of the human body and the natural world, returning insistently to mortality, regeneration and gender politics. The exhibition is framed as an overview of a rigorous and poetic career rather than a showcase of new work alone.

The collaboration carries personal history. Pace founder Arne Glimcher, who represented Smith's father, the sculptor Tony Smith, recalled meeting Kiki as a young woman helping build her father's models — without imagining she would become one of the most influential artists of her generation. The partnership between the two galleries reflects the weight of the occasion: a homecoming three decades in the making.

Smith draws on visual cultures ranging from eighteenth-century anatomical renderings to medieval altarpieces, folklore and relic imagery. The Los Angeles presentation arrives as Deitch closes out a year that included Urs Fischer's LA Dust and YES pair of shows at its two LA spaces, continuing the gallery's run of large-scale, artist-driven projects on the West Coast.
