Cranbrook Fiber Head Joey Quinones Shortlisted for Michigan's $5,000 Envision Artist Prize
Joey Quinones, artist-in-residence and head of fiber at Cranbrook Academy of Art, is one of three finalists for the 2027 Envision: The Michigan Artist Initiative. The finalists will exhibit at Stamps Gallery in Ann Arbor in summer 2027, with the $5,000 winner announced June 17.

Joey Quinones, artist-in-residence and head of the Fiber department at Cranbrook Academy of Art, has been shortlisted for the 2027 Envision: The Michigan Artist Initiative award, Cranbrook announced on October 9, 2026. The shortlist was revealed by the Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan on October 8, after reviewing submissions from hundreds of Michigan artists and collaboratives across the state. Quinones joins fellow finalists Mandy Cano Villalobos and Abhishek Narula on a three-person shortlist. Now in its fourth edition, Envision recognizes contemporary artists living and working in Michigan, and has become one of the state's most visible platforms for new practice. The three finalists will present work in an exhibition at the Stamps Gallery in Ann Arbor running June 10 through July 31, 2027, with each receiving an artist fee and a production stipend to create new work for the show. The jury will select one winner to receive a $5,000 prize at the opening reception on June 17, 2027. The jury brings together Rehema Barber, chief curator at the Kalamazoo Institute of Art; Laura Mott, chief curator at Cranbrook Art Museum; and artist Sara Nickleson, who won the 2025 Envision award herself. Their selection will carry significant weight for the three finalists, whose work will be seen by curators, collectors and critics across the region. The recognition places a Cranbrook faculty leader at the center of one of Michigan's most prominent statewide contemporary art initiatives, and underscores the Academy's deep ties to the University of Michigan's art institutions in Ann Arbor.
