Christie's lays out its October Marquee Week, anchored by record Peter Simon single-owner collection
Christie's has unveiled its October 20/21 Marquee Week program: live sales at King Street from 14-16 October during Frieze Week, plus online auctions 1-21 October. The season is led by Monsoon: The Peter Simon Collection - nearly 200 works from the fashion retailer's holdings, the highest-value single-owner collection ever offered at Christie's London, estimated at 86.5-126.7 million pounds.

Christie's has set out the full program for its October 20/21 Marquee Week, the London auction season it stages each year to coincide with Frieze Week. Seven sales - evening, day and online - will run across three weeks, with live auctions at King Street from 14 to 16 October and online bidding from 1 to 21 October on christies.com. The anchor is Monsoon: The Peter Simon Collection, nearly 200 works from the British businessman who founded the Monsoon fashion brand. Christie's calls it the highest-value single-owner collection ever offered at its London rooms, and press reports put the combined estimate at 86.5 million to 126.7 million pounds. It is split across three dedicated auctions: an evening sale on 14 October, a day sale on 15 October and an online sale running 1-20 October. Leading the highlights are Francis Bacon's Figure in Movement (1978), estimated at 14-18 million pounds; Joan Miro's Peinture (Les amants - Adam et Eve) (1925) at 7-10 million; Piet Mondrian's Composition A, with Double Line and Yellow (1935) at 8-12 million; and Alighiero Boetti's Mappa at 2-3 million pounds. Around the collection, the 20th/21st Century: London Evening Sale on 14 October draws on international private consignments, with works by Wassily Kandinsky, Andy Warhol, David Hockney, Gerhard Richter, Paul Signac, Alexander Calder, Pablo Picasso, Paul Klee, Cy Twombly, Lucian Freud and others. Day sales on 15 and 16 October cover post-war, contemporary and impressionist-modern works on paper, and the season extends to Modern British and Irish art sales on 21-22 October. A charitable thread runs through the week: two donated works by Igshaan Adams and Patricia Leite will be sold for Artists for Climate Action, with the hammer price split between ClientEarth and the Gallery Climate Coalition. Christie's then carries the season to Paris - with the Durand-Ruel and Thinking Italian sales on 22-23 October during the fifth edition of Art Basel Paris - before the 20/21 sales continue in New York from 17 November.
