Johnny Marr's guitar collection brings £3.6 million at Christie's London sale
Christie's sold all 111 lots from the Smiths guitarist's collection for £3.65 million, more than tripling pre-sale expectations, with bidders joining from 34 countries.
The sale, titled 'Marr's Guitars: The Johnny Marr Collection,' closed in London with a total of £3,649,280. Bidders from 34 countries registered, and 81% were new clients to the auction house. Proceeds from 31 lots supported charities including Guide Dogs for the Blind and the National Autistic Society. The marathon sale ran more than five hours.
