Christie's has named the centrepiece of its November Magnificent Jewels sale in Geneva: a 24-carat fancy intense pink emerald-cut diamond ring by Bulgari, unveiled to the press on 9 October. The jewel, known as The Bulgari Pink, will lead the auction house's autumn luxury week in the Swiss city. The ring arrives with an unusually complete pedigree. It comes from a distinguished European noble family and has been handed down through generations of the same family, preserving an unbroken history of ownership from the diamond fields to Bulgari's ateliers. Such continuity is increasingly rare among stones of this calibre. It is a scientific rarity as well. The diamond is classified as Type IIa, a category that represents fewer than two per cent of all gem-quality diamonds, prized for exceptional transparency and purity of colour. Its intense pink hue and refined proportions place it firmly among the season's most coveted coloured diamonds. The Magnificent Jewels live auction takes place on 10 November at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues in Geneva, with the ring on public view from 5 to 10 November. The unveiling lands in a season rich with historic pink diamonds at Christie's, which is also offering the 19-carat Le Grand Mazarin — once held in the French Crown Jewels for 225 years — in Geneva on 14 November. The Bulgari Pink arrives in a crowded November for historic pink diamonds at Christie's. The house is also offering Le Grand Mazarin, a legendary 19-carat pink diamond bequeathed by Cardinal Mazarin to Louis XIV on his death in 1661, which then remained in the French Crown Jewels for 225 years. That stone goes on view in London on 18-19 October and in New York on 6-7 November before its Geneva sale on 14 November — four days after The Bulgari Pink takes the rostrum.
