Bijutsu Techo has published an interview with REN and KANA, a married couple in their thirties who have built a contemporary art collection together. The conversation coincides with '22 COLLECTION by REN & KANA', an exhibition presenting their holdings at SPACE D9 in Shibuya, Tokyo, running from 29 September to 5 October 2026. The interview centres on what collecting means to the couple and on the pleasure of living alongside art day after day. Rather than treating the works as assets or trophies, REN and KANA describe a domestic relationship with art – pieces encountered in daily life, shaping the rhythms of the home. Their account offers a window into a generation of young Japanese collectors whose engagement is driven by curiosity and cohabitation with the work. By staging the collection publicly, the couple temporarily open a private passion to a wider audience. The format – a short-run show of a personal collection in an independent Shibuya space – reflects how younger collectors in Tokyo are increasingly willing to share what they own, turning private enthusiasm into a public conversation about what collecting can look like now. The exhibition is on view at SPACE D9, on the first floor of the Shinsen Building in Shinsencho, Shibuya, from 29 September through 5 October 2026, open daily from noon to 7:30 in the evening. The Bijutsu Techo interview accompanies the show, giving readers the collectors' own account of how the works were chosen and what it feels like to live among them.
