Boston's Mayor's Office of Arts and Culture is accepting submissions for its annual Emerging Artists Exhibition, a juried showcase of new creative talent at the Boston City Hall Galleries. The open call, which appeared in the October 2, 2026 edition of the New England Art News opportunities roundup, invites visual artists who live, work or create in the Greater Boston area to put work forward for the winter show. Chosen artists will see their work exhibited at the City Hall Galleries from December 7, 2026 through February 26, 2027. Jurors will award three cash prizes — Best in Show and a 50+ Award, each worth $1,000, alongside a $500 New Voice Award — with three Juror's Choice honorable mentions also on the slate. Submissions close on Monday, November 2, 2026 at 4:59 p.m., and a virtual office hour and Q&A session for prospective applicants is scheduled for October 13 at 5 p.m. The exhibition carries on the legacy of the Fay Chandler Emerging Art Exhibition, honoring the Boston artist, philanthropist and arts advocate who took up her own practice later in life — a history the city says embodies the idea that artists can emerge at any age and at many different points in their creative lives. Recent honorees include Andrew Zou, Yanna Marie Orcel and Marisa McCarthy, who received Juror's Choice awards at the 2025 reception, while Adam Maserow won the New Voice Award in 2024. Applications are handled through the city's Submittable portal, where the call is listed as open from September 25 through November 2, 2026. Artists can direct eligibility or application questions to galleries and exhibitions manager Mariana Rey, with interpretation, translation and disability accommodations available at no cost; late submissions will not be considered.
