Bonhams 19th-century and British Impressionist sale reaches £2.8 million
The London sale closed on 23 September with £2.85 million in sales and a 75.6% sell-through rate, led by an Aivazovsky moonlit landscape at £635,400.
Fifty-nine of 78 lots sold at the auction, which was anchored by Ivan Aivazovsky's 1871 canvas of an oxwagon crossing a ford on a moonlit evening. Works by Munnings also featured, including a portrait of Waldorf Astor and a landscape that fetched £152,800 against a £40,000–60,000 estimate.
