Berlin Church to Auction 52 Works to Fund Refugee Projects
The 31st EKBOart charity auction takes place on 14 November 2026 in St Matthew's Church at Berlin's Kulturforum, with 52 jury-selected works by artists including Karin Sander, Heinz Mack and Thomas Scheibitz, and proceeds split between the artists and refugee projects.

A Berlin church will turn auctioneer for a good cause next month, selling 52 works of contemporary art to support refugee projects. The 31st EKBOart charity auction takes place on 14 November 2026 in St Matthew's Church on the Kulturforum, with the auction house Grisebach acting as cooperation partner.
The works on offer were chosen by a jury and span established and younger positions: Karin Sander, Heinz Mack and Thomas Scheibitz are among the names, alongside the theatre collective Rimini Protokoll. Proceeds will be split between the participating artists and projects supporting refugees, continuing a format the Protestant church in Berlin has run for three decades.
The works can be viewed in the church from 6 to 14 November, Tuesday to Sunday between 11am and 6pm, and the catalogue is available online. Bids can also be submitted in writing for those unable to attend in person.
The auction is the 31st edition of the EKBOart sale, which the Protestant church has staged as a meeting point between the art scene and social causes. Its venue, St Matthew's Church, stands on the Kulturforum a short walk from the Philharmonie and the Gemäldegalerie, and will serve as a temporary gallery for a fortnight before the hammer falls.
Heinz Mack co-founded the ZERO group in Düsseldorf in the late 1950s; Karin Sander is known for conceptual works that probe sculpture and architecture; and Rimini Protokoll has spent two decades staging documentary theatre with non-professional performers. Their presence gives the sale a breadth running from post-war abstraction to contemporary performance.
