ATHR Gallery Adds Pioneering Saudi Modernist Mounirah Mosly's Estate to Roster
ATHR Gallery has announced it now represents part of the estate of Mounirah Mosly, the late Saudi modernist who died in 2019 and was among the first women to exhibit publicly in Riyadh. The gallery will present her work alongside Abdulrahman Alsulaiman at Frieze Masters London, 14 to 18 October 2026.

ATHR Gallery has announced that it now represents part of the estate of Mounirah Mosly, the late Saudi modernist who died in 2019. The announcement, dated 5 October 2026, marks the gallery's formal stewardship of the artist's legacy, and the gallery will present her work alongside that of Abdulrahman Alsulaiman at Frieze Masters in London, running 14 to 18 October 2026. Mosly is regarded as a pioneering figure of Saudi modernism and was among the first women to exhibit publicly in Riyadh. Her practice moved across painting, graphic design and teaching, and she became known for an experimental attitude towards materials — mixing her own dyes and working with unconventional media — at a time when few women in the kingdom had professional artistic careers. In recent years her work has circulated through Jeddah's Hafez Gallery, which represented her during the late 2010s, and has appeared at regional auction houses, keeping her name in circulation among Gulf collectors. ATHR's move gives her estate dedicated gallery representation at a moment when institutional and market attention on modernism from the Gulf continues to grow. The Frieze Masters presentation places Mosly in dialogue with fellow Saudi modernist Abdulrahman Alsulaiman, suggesting the gallery sees the fair's historical remit as a fitting context in which to introduce her work to European collectors and curators. Frieze Masters, which focuses on art made before 2000, offers a platform where her rediscovery could translate into broader institutional recognition. For ATHR, taking on the Mosly estate signals an ambition to shape the historical narrative of Saudi art, rather than only presenting contemporary positions. How the gallery frames her experimental material practice — long described in regional coverage as ahead of its time — will be closely watched when the Frieze Masters booth opens on 14 October.
