Bonhams staged a Taipei preview on September 19–20 of its autumn Chinese Paintings auction, to be held in Hong Kong on October 7. The preview spotlighted the third instalment of the Zhang Qun 'Zhongxing Lu' private collection: 35 works spanning 1928 to 1963 that read as a Republican-era biography told through paintings, letters and social networks, including Chiang Kai-shek's calligraphy '親愛精誠' (est. HK$100,000–200,000) and Tan Yankai's letters. Another highlight is Lin Fengmian's 1953 'Youju Tu', a rare vertically-composed work with a year inscription from the family collection of Indonesian Chinese collector Li Aimeng, estimated at HK$1.8–3 million. Bonhams noted that personal-collection sections were a particular feature of this season's sale.
