Sotheby's will sell a cache of a dozen works formerly owned by the late oil tycoon Armand Hammer as part of its November modern art evening sale in New York. The group carries a high estimate of $37 million, with an Edgar Degas painting from around 1899 expected to lead.

Sotheby's has announced it will offer a dozen works once owned by Armand Hammer in its November modern art evening sale in New York, part of the house's marquee autumn auctions. The group carries a high estimate of $37 million. The expected top lot is Edgar Degas's ca. 1899 painting, details of which lead the consignment. The sale adds to a packed fall season that also includes a rare J.M.W. Turner Roman landscape, 'Rome, from Mount Aventine' (1836), heading to Sotheby's London with a £50 million ($66.2 million) estimate.
