The Turner Prize 2026 exhibition opened at the Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art on 26 September, bringing together the four shortlisted artists: Simeon Barclay, Kira Freije, Marguerite Humeau and Tanoa Sasraku. Barclay presents a spatial intervention developed from his performance The Ruin, drawing on his Huddersfield upbringing and the M62 motorway's construction. Freije shows Unspeak the Chorus, a sculptural installation of slender welded-steel figures with cast aluminium faces. Humeau's Torches combines sculpture, sound and light around themes of death and renewal, while Sasraku's Morale Patch examines extractivism through crude oil sealed in acrylic paperweights and stacked paper sheets. The exhibition runs to the end of March next year, with the winner announced on 10 December and receiving £25,000. Tate Britain director Alex Farquharson chairs the jury.
