ART TAIPEI, Taiwan's longest-running international art fair, opened its 33rd edition on 29 October with a VIP preview, gathering 127 galleries under the annual theme Symbiosis. The fair runs at the Taipei World Trade Center exhibition halls, with Taiwanese and overseas galleries in roughly equal numbers, and runs alongside Taipei Art Week, which opened across the city's museums and galleries on 24 October.
The fair's organisers, the Taiwan Art Gallery Association, have framed the edition around exchange between different traditions and practices, a theme carried through the booth presentations. Among the galleries highlighted on the opening day, Chini Gallery presented nine artists under the title The Folds of Time: A Contemporary Dialogue in Chinese Art, split between a Chinese New Classics strand, including Huo Kang, Hsu Yu-jen, Li Kuang-yu, Teng Pu-chun and Lu Hsien-ming, and a Future New Forces strand of younger artists working in abstract painting, photography, sculpture and figurative work.
Ting Ting Art Space showed seventeen international artists across narrative figuration, everyday observation and imagined imagery, while Donna Art brought together artists from Taiwan, Japan and Hong Kong working in ink, oil, pen drawing, glass and mixed media. Yiyun Bookstore marked its tenth anniversary with a presentation themed on Tao Yuanming's Peach Blossom Spring, one of several booths using the fair as a stage for anniversary or publishing projects.
The edition also introduces a special section devoted to Japanese contemporary art since 2008, curated by Jeffrey Ian Rosen of Misako & Rosen, and the fair's website has added an AI visitor assistant for the first time. A forum on curating, held at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum on 27 October, brought together curators from M+, the Korean Pavilion at the 2026 Venice Biennale and the 2025 Jogja Biennale ahead of the fair's public opening.
