Hungary's leading art fair has opened its doors. Art Market Budapest, staged at the MTK Sportpark since 2011, is running its 2026 edition from 15 to 18 October, KUNSTFORUM International reported on 14 October. Fair director Attila Ladényi oversees management, with Erika Rimaszombati responsible as chief architect for the fair's design and technical coordination.

Running alongside the main fair is Art Photo Budapest, the only photography fair in Eastern Europe, which has accompanied the event as a satellite since 2014. The photo fair programmes itself in the spirit of the Hungarian-born classics of twentieth-century photography, invoking László Moholy-Nagy, André Kertész and Robert Capa as its points of reference.

The pairing gives Budapest's fair week a distinctive profile: a general contemporary art fair anchored to a medium-specific satellite with a clear historical lineage. In a European fair calendar crowded with autumn events, from Frieze in London to Art Basel Paris, Budapest's October slot positions it as the regional hub for Central and Eastern European galleries and collectors.

The fair's continued presence since 2011 underlines the steady institutionalisation of the region's art market, even as larger Western fairs dominate the headlines. For galleries working between Vienna, Warsaw and Bucharest, the Budapest week remains one of the few regular commercial platforms in the region. The 2026 edition opened on 15 October, the day KUNSTFORUM reported it, and runs through Sunday 18 October. Staged at the MTK Sportpark, the fair week has grown into the main commercial platform for galleries working between Vienna, Warsaw and Bucharest.
