Art Jakarta 2026 has opened at JIExpo Kemayoran in the Indonesian capital, running from October 2 to 4 with a VIP preview and vernissage on Friday and public days across the weekend. The fair presents 75 galleries from across Asia in its flagship section, positioning itself as a forum for contemporary art from the region with a deliberately regional emphasis. Alongside the gallery booths, the fair runs several curated platforms. Scene gathers artist collectives, craft studios, independent projects and art merchandise across 39 presentations, while Art Jakarta Spot moves beyond the conventional booth format with large-scale and site-responsive works, including pieces by Nguyen Phuong Linh of Vietnam, Henryette Louise, Albertho Wanma, Budi Santoso and Angki Purbandono, whose light-box installation honours the Red Cross movement in South Papua. A new section, AJScope, debuts with MTN Market, an initiative connecting grassroots art-market ventures from Indonesian cities including Malang, Pekanbaru, Banyumas and Gorontalo. Julius Baer returns as lead partner for a fifth year, its lounge presenting a collaboration with Handiwirman Saputra, while other brand commissions include Bibit's 'Lost at Sea,' a raft installation by Endry Pragusta referencing Gericault's Raft of the Medusa, and Treasury's presentation with its art prize winner Etza Meisyara exploring gold as a material and a value. The programme also includes an 'Art Meets Music' project, an interactive light installation by Agnes Hansella built from thousands of metres of discarded telecommunications cable, a presentation by the MR.D.I.Y. regional art competition's 19 winning emerging artists from Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, and the first Jakarta edition of the Aesop Women's Library. The edition keeps the fair's focus on discovery within Southeast Asia while expanding its fringe of design, music and community initiatives.
