The Metropolitan Museum of Art and John Galliano jointly cancelled the Costume Institute's planned spring exhibition dedicated to the designer, Apollo Magazine reported on 4 September 2026. The show, titled John Galliano: Horizons and intended to open alongside the 2027 Met Gala, was withdrawn after museum donors, Jewish community leaders and local politicians objected to honouring Galliano over his past antisemitic and racist remarks, for which a French court convicted him in 2011. In a statement posted on Instagram, Galliano said he did not want the debate around him to place the Met in a difficult position or distract from the Costume Institute's work. Museum director Max Hollein said the decision followed discussions with the designer, while Anna Wintour called the step courageous and curator Andrew Bolton said he understood the pain the exhibition had caused. The Met has yet to announce a replacement spring 2027 exhibition and Met Gala theme.
