Alison Jacques in London is presenting the first UK solo exhibition of American painter Quentin James McCaffrey, on view 3 September to 3 October 2026. McCaffrey's carefully painted interiors are imagined rather than real — believable rooms assembled from invented architectural details. A frame sits on the floor as if fallen from the wall; slivers of light cross the rooms; mirrors hold reflections that shouldn't be possible, since the viewer isn't in them. The works hover between the real and the surreal.
