Paris Photo and Aperture have unveiled the shortlist for the 2026 Paris Photo–Aperture PhotoBook Awards, now in their fourteenth year. Thirty-five titles made the cut across three categories: First PhotoBook, PhotoBook of the Year, and Photography Catalog of the Year. The organizers say this year's edition drew a record number of submissions, with books arriving from 56 countries, including entries from Armenia, Iran, Morocco, and Venezuela. The shortlist jury met in New York from September 22 to 24, spending three days reviewing entries. The panel brought together artist Alejandro Cartagena, Judd Foundation design director Alexandra Cunningham Cameron, Aperture editor-in-chief Michael Famighetti, Paris Photo artistic director Anna Planas, and Offset Projects curator and founder Anshika Varma. Among the twenty titles shortlisted in the First PhotoBook category are Ivan Anisimov's "Pants on Top of Shoes" (Kult Books), Ma Hailun's "Üruklyn" (Jiazazhi), and Moeko Ishiguro's "Notation(s)", alongside works from small European and Latin American presses. The ten PhotoBook of the Year contenders include Bieke Depoorter's "The Beds I Slept In", Sohrab Hura's "Snow" (MACK), and Nick Haymes' "Chronograph" (SPBH Editions), while the five Photography Catalog of the Year finalists range from "Ghana! Rêver l'indépendance, 1957–1976" (Atelier EXB) to "L Is for Look: Children's Photobooks" (Spector Books). All thirty-five books will be exhibited at Paris Photo, which is open to the public from November 11 to 15. A five-member final jury will meet in Paris on Thursday, November 12 to choose the three winners, who will be named on Friday, November 13 at 3:00 p.m. CET during a ceremony at the fair. The announcement will also be published on Aperture.org and Parisphoto.com. After the fair, the shortlisted books will travel: first to PhotoIreland in Dublin in December 2026, then to Printed Matter in New York in January 2027, with additional venues to be announced.
